every startup in sf is one of three things
as I've been exploring new roles in SF, I've been focusing on smaller startups. I've been missing the feeling of a smaller company, being more connected with my co-workers, and all that vibey stuff.
unfortunately I've had to come to fact with the fact that (almost) everyone seems to be working on one of two problems.
- mechanical turk/scale AI v29
- a perfectly normal industry, with AI!!! (and all the operational struggles of the original industry)
- foundation lab acquisition bait
of course, then I'd do a second split as well:
- twitter-based (usually younger, yc, more annoying)
- linkedin-based (generic daily linkedin posts, usually older)
of course this system doesn't cover every startup ('every' was hyperbole) - but these six axes seem to cover most 'modern' startups. and to be honest, I'm not really sure where I want to go. every thing is clearly based on foundation labs (1 aiming for lab sales, 2 hoping for a niche labs won't do by throwing operations into the mix, 3 hoping to be bought out) - is this really the future?
we'll see where I end up (might not even move) but it does feel very much like a lab driven bubble right now.
