i only want one currency please
It’s quite a simple demand. Whatever context I’m in, there better be one currency involved with it. If I’m playing a game, I don’t want 4 different types of tokens and 2 premium currencies that can be exchanged for real money (another currency). If I’m trying to figure out it’s worth it to pay my rent with a credit card, I don’t want to have to balance some proprietary currency that I can swap for the right to earn another currency1. Figuring out how airline loyalties shouldn’t have 3 different earning rates with 3 different statuses.

Obviously the reason for all this happening is very easy to identify. When you have so many currencies to track, the end user gets confused. Details are dropped, and accurate valuations no longer become possible. On top of that, exclusivity and elitism become a problem, as those who have the time and motivation to calculate and benefit then view others as potential ‘free loaders’ who might ruin the gravy train.
I don’t see these patterns ever changing, but seeing them in more and more situations is enraging. Surely the optimal model of society isn’t a gacha game, right? If so, I’d at least like more free pulls please.
